why CHOOSE carey?

CAREY believes that our educational mission is to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to live more intentionally, thoughtfully and faithfully in the church and the world. Our goal is to help our students engage their culture and circles as thoughtful Christians, to be lifelong learners and to be effective workers in their local churches and communities.

WHY STUDY AT CAREY?

Today’s Christian ministry has seen a decline in qualified and capable leaders. But Carey doesn’t believe that God has stopped calling women and men into ministry. Seminary is often far from home, and potential students would have to consider uprooting their lives to have access to a school that offers theological education. On top of that, graduate studies can be costly. Students who graduate with debt are often limited in where and how they can serve while they are paying off their debt.

How is Carey addressing the problem of accessible theological education?

MODULAR PROGRAM PATHWAYS

Our programs are built on a modular credit model in which one level can build on another, enabling the learner to progress towards a higher degree at their own pace. This model gives our students the flexibility to stack their choice of foundational courses, program requirement courses and elective courses to earn a diploma or to prepare a pathway to a higher academic degree.

Here’s an example of how the program pathways for a Diploma in Christian Ministry can build towards a Master of Divinity or vice versa;

All of Carey’s foundational courses run once a year, while our program requirement and elective courses rotate every 3-4 years based on instructor availability. This means that you can register for courses anytime during the year and your program pathway will still be on track. In general, it is wise to plan to take required courses early in the program to leave the greatest flexibility for electives and specialization further along.

ONLINE LEARNING MODEL
Carey’s programs apply three methods to advocate our interactive online learning model for real-life ministry.

Image
SITUATED IN LIFE
LEARNING
Online learning allows the students to stay embedded in their own local ministry so students can build practical skills from real-life ministry problems and solutions.
Image
ROBUST THEOLOGICAL
DIALOGUE
To better prepare them for ministry, students may bring real-life case studies to their peers and instructors to encourage discussions and resolutions.
Image
COMMUNITY
IMMERSION
In every program, you will join a community of fellow students and instructors to provide a place for reflection, discipleship, and integrated learning.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Carey’s affiliation with the University of British Columbia allows us to pursue innovations in Learning Technologies, and to ensure students have streamlined access to various platforms to improve their learning experience.

ZOOM
Zoom is a video/audio web-conferencing and collaboration tool that allows for real-time meetings and discussions with your fellow students and faculty alike. Rather than being a platform solely for lectures, we use Zoom to facilitate peer-to-peer learning experiences and community growth.

POPULI
Populi is one of the central platforms you will use for registration, payment, community engagement, and even courses. Populi can easily handle videos, group discussions, file sharing, and integrations with many populi LTIs (Learning Tools Operability) available today.

EBSCO
To help you gain access to resources for courses and research, Carey has an ever growing digital library through our EBSCO collection. We believe students should not miss out on their learning because they cannot afford books, or have difficulty finding a copy; we’re dedicated to making all necessary resources for classes as close to 100% free for any students in our programs.
