DR. BRACKNEY APPOINTED INTERIM ACADEMIC DEAN

Dr. William Brackney, Carey's Pioneer MacDonald Professor of Baptist Theology and Ethics, has been appointed to a two year term as Carey Theological College's Interim Academic Dean, commencing March 1. “It has been a pleasure to serve together at Carey these last few years, and I am grateful that Dr. Brackney has agreed to these new responsibilities during a period of growth and change,” says Dr. Colin Godwin, President of Carey.

Dr. Joyce Chan, who is currently on sabbatical from the Dean position, shares, “I believe that God brings each of us into a particular place and a particular time for a particular purpose. I am thankful that God has brought Dr. Brackney to Carey, first to strengthen the D.Min. program, and now to use his wealth of experience in academic administration and leadership to improve the overall quality of education and student service and to mentor faculty, old and new.”

Dr. Brackney brings significant experience in academic leadership and administration. He has served as Principal and Professor of the History of Christianity of McMaster Divinity College and Dean of Theology at McMaster University, served on two faculties at Toronto School of Theology, and was Chair of the Department of Religion at Baylor University. Dr. Brackney was for several years the executive director of the American Baptist Historical Society and curator of the Samuel B. Colgate Baptist Historical Collection, and more recently the director of the Acadia Centre for Baptist and Anabaptist Studies. He served for six years as Chair of the Board of Governors of the Canadian Bible Society and he is also the author or editor of over fifty scholarly works.

Dr. Brackney shares, “Carey Theological College is poised to have a major national and global impact in theological education. I am privileged to lead the academic team in achieving some exciting objectives for God’s Kingdom.”
